What is Occupational Therapy ?

Occupational Therapy can be best defined as the therapeutic use of work, self-care, and play activities to increase development and prevent disability. It may include adaptation of task or environment to achieve maximum independence and to enhance the quality of life. (The American Occupational Therapy Association, 1976)

In simplest terms, occupational therapists help people across the lifespan participate in the things they want and need to do through the use of everyday activities (occupations).

Occupational Therapy has evolved over time to its present position in the ongoing treatment of people of all ages in an effort to improve the lives of others.
